But for Armidale couple Michael and Susan Lytton-Hitchins, their downsize involved an all-day auction of their 20 Clydesdale horses and 300 lots of antique horse equipment.

Mrs Lytton-Hitchins told The Express she was overwhelmed by the response the sale had.

“It was outstanding for a pretty unusual event, we had buyers from Victoria and far-north Queensland,” she said.

“We had between 400 to 500 people attend.

“There were also lots of phone bidders.”

The sale took place on the couple’s property Kyabra, where they have kept the horses as a hobby.

“People love them, they are such gentle giants,” Mrs Lytton-Hitchins said.
