American television host Giuliana Rancic is stepping down from her role as an anchor on E! News after 10 years fronting the program.

The E! television network announced on Thursday the 40-year-old was leaving the program, with Rancic saying the move came at a “thrilling time” for her.

“During her time here, Giuliana played an instrumental role in building E! News into a global entertainment news powerhouse and we will miss seeing her on set every day,” E! said in a statement.

It is believed she will continue to co-host E!’s Fashion Police program as well as anchor the network’s red carpet coverage at various awards ceremonies.

According to a report by Deadline, Rancic will transition out of her day-to-day role with E! News next month.

Rancic worked as a journalist and covered stories related to the White House before joining E! News as a correspondent in 2002. In 2005, she became the show’s solo anchor and managing editor before being joined by co-host Ryan Seacrest the year after.

From 2009 to 2014, she and husband Bill Rancic also had their own E! reality show, Giuliana and Bill. Rancic was the winner of the first US season of The Apprentice.

In a statement, the mother of two-year-old Duke, hinted her departure from the show was to make room for other projects.

“For more than a decade, I was fortunate enough to play a role in the success of E! News and will miss my family at the show,” she said.

“This is such a thrilling time for me, and I thank the gang at E! for understanding my desire to embark on this next chapter in my life.”

The television presenter courted controversy earlier this year on Fashion Police when she said American actress Zendaya Coleman’s dreadlocks probably smelled like “patchouli or weed”.

Rancic apologised for the comments on E! the following day after they were slammed as racially insensitive.
